Spring Plantings at Frautschi Point 2014-2016 and Planting Success Survey in 2017

The Plant Survey of 2017
In May and July, a dedicated group of Friends volunteers conducted surveys of the Frautschi Point Plantings for 2013-16. The group met two times in May and three times in July, forming teams of plant experts and recorders. They recorded observation on spreadsheets, which listed both planted species and all other species encountered.

Data were evaluated in fall 2017 and summarized in a report for the Preserve staff. The winter 2017 newsletter features a summary  article about what we learned from this worthwhile and fun project.

We thank our steering team Suzy Will-Wolf, Glenda Denniston, Gisela Kutzbach and Monica Sentoff who began organizing the project last winter.

We thank our dedicated volunteers. A special adventure were the July surveys when vegetation was growing at times chest high. Janis Cooper, Diane Dempsey, Doris Dubielzig, Lynne Krainer, Roma Lenehan, Karen Nakasone, Paul Quinlan, Monica Senthoff, Steve Senthoff, Susan Slapnick.

The photos tell the story - of learning, working and
sharing, and having fun with the team. Volunteering with the Friends and supporting the Preserve is rewarding.

Click on the Report Title in the BOX to read the entire report, detailing conditions before planting, survey areas and methods, lists of planted and existing vegetation, results and conclusions, and including 7 pages of detailed statistical analyses.
Animated consultations and chattering, as the teams worked through the survey plot at Frautschi Point on July 24, 2017. This was a fun time for learning and social interactions.
I think that all of us enjoy doing this with the great guidance of Gisela, Glenda, and Suzy.  Thanks to all the other team members. It makes for great fun and I find that the time just flies. Contact me if you organize additional surveys.
       -Thanks, Diane

It's been a real pleasure to work with all of you. -Monica
