Glenda Denniston and Gisela Kutzbach were spotted at Frautschi Path, taking measurements in the snow on Dec 20. They are preparing for the 2017 spring and summer monitoring of the planting successes of the Friends planting projects in this area 2013-2016. Doris Dubielzig also joined the effort. They used a 100' tape measure provided by Paul Williams, and a draft map prepared by Rhonda James. Many of the Friends were volunteering to plant thousands of plant in the area over the course of four years. Now the time has come to evluate how the plants did. Is there a greater abundancy of wildflowers now in the area and a greater diversity of plants? Where did they grow best? Which plants like their location? Did they survive more than one year? What factors helped or impeded growth? And many more questions will be answered. The Friends monitoring team will use these accurate measurements of the actual planting areas, along with other pertinent information, and plant lists for each year, to establish 15-20 subplot areas for sampling next spring and summer. Suszy WIll-Wolf has developed a detailed monitoring protocol for this effort. If you would like to get involved please email Gisela. We need all the help we can get to complete this fun project.
