John Kutzbach has been a student of climate since 1959, when he started his first research projects on the waters and ice of Lake Mendota. He joined the UW-Madison faculty in 1965. He is professor emeritus of the Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences, and of the Nelson Institute. Now, as a Senior Scientist in the Nelson Institute’s Center for Climatic Research, he is continuing computer-based research to simulate global and regional climate change. He was elected to the National Academy of Sciences in 2006.
